Your opinion matters as much as the person right next to you. Our very first Vietnamese-American Senator of California: Janet Nguyen spoke out on her opinion on the death of another senator, Tom Hayden, who had passed away due to old age. During the Vietnam War, Hayden traveled to northern Vietnam to communicate with the communists that killed Nguyen’s family. In her speech, she addressed that she will not honor a senator who sided with the communists that killed her people. Although it was calmly addressed, her mic was cut off during her speech and removed from the chamber. I think that was very impulsive and unreasonable because she should be able to express her opinions on the matter because it did not bring harm to her surroundings. I hope that the senators will find better ways to handle similar situations in the future and not be impulsive. Nguyen should not deprive of her rights as a citizen of the United States.
